Aquatics facts
- Swimming is a core sport and therefore must be included in every Games
- It was first included in the 1930 Games
- Competed by males and females over 5 disciplines: freestyle, backstroke, breastsroke, butterfly and medley (consistutes of the former 4 disciplines)
- Athletes compete over 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m and 4x200m
- Consists of individual and team or synchronised events
- Categories include 10m platform, 3m springboard and 1m springboard
- First included in the 1930 games but it is an optional sport for inclusion in Games by host cities
- NI first competed in swimming in the Vancouver 1954 Commonwealth Games
